Britt Fishel and Artists

October 2-October 4

2020 Fringe Festival

10 minutes

allowed|aloud is the culmination of two years of research and continued examination into the normalized animalization of women through literature, everyday dialog, and the preconceptions that follow. While asking questions about choice, survival, and rebellion, we investigate historical waves of feminism in our country: the reactive elements, the cyclical elements, and investigate how women have taken to resolving the misogyny and internalized sexism, while examining personal protest. How do women adjust, re-adjust, break the mold, and forge ahead under vexatious situations? We bury, cover, shelter, fix, secure, rebel, riot, and repeat.

Ticket buyers will be emailed a link to website and film before their designated performance time. Appropriate for all ages.

About the Artists

Britt Fishel and Artists is a collaborative, project-based company, presenting both live performances and dance films, in the Philadelphia community and beyond. Through research and performance, we aim to foster a better assimilation of the human experience, to democratize and normalize socioeconomic, political, and identity driven conversations that are both diverse and inclusive through intersectionality. Through the lens of a feminist perspective, we address our past, to better understand our present, to change our future.
Britt Whitmoyer Fishel is a dance artist, choreographer, dance filmmaker, and educator. She holds her BFA in Dance Performance from East Carolina University and her MFA in Dance (Screendance) from the University of Michigan.
Fishel has led company tours throughout New York City, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Richmond, Asheville, Charlotte, Atlanta, Chicago, and London. Her screen work has been seen in Greensboro Dance Film Festival, Y’allywood Film Festival, Detroit Dance City Festival, EnCore Dance on Film Festival, DanceBARN, Dance for Reel, FilmFest by Rogue Dancer, Women in Dance Leadership Conference, as well as several gallery exhibitions across the country.
Fishel currently resides in Philadelphia, PA where she is on the Dance Faculty at Drexel University and Bryn Mawr College. She continues to make both live performance and dance film independently and collaboratively under the umbrella of Britt Fishel and Artists.
