World premiere. A musical mélange inspired by the life, fame, and philosophy of Andy Warhol—ANDY: A Popera transforms an Olde Kensington warehouse into a den of pop iconography and absurdity. It’s an artistic collision of cabaret and opera exploring what Warhol has become today. What happens when a man becomes a brand?
$40 / 150 minutes for cabaret tables
$30 / 150 minutes for chairs
This production includes explicit language, sudden loud noises, sexual content, and nudity. It is in English with no supertitles and uses amplification. By attending the show, you are consenting to being filmed and photographed, which may be included as part of the evening’s performance.
ABOUT OPERA PHILADELPHIA: Opera Philadelphia is committed to embracing innovation and developing opera for the 21st century. Our mission: 1) Delivering outstanding productions of traditional and new repertoire that engage our public and propel our genre forward, 2) Identifying extraordinary artists, both established and emerging, and provide opportunities for them to create their most imaginative and inspired work, 3) Presenting innovative programming relevant to the multi-cultural Philadelphia region that broadens and diversifies the opera audience. ABOUT THE BEARDED LADIES: The Bearded Ladies Cabaret is a queer experimental cabaret troupe that is both intellectual and accessible, entertaining and meaningful, stupid good and just plain stupid. We combine the forces of ensemble built theater with the heat of cabaret to create performative poison cookies, music driven experiences that feel familiar and dangerous. Our shows tackle the politics of gender, identity, and artistic invention with sparkle and wit.
