Two Danish sisters slowly grow into spinsterhood as they live out their days abiding by their strict, religious father, the local minister.  After a Parisian refugee named Babette (Stephanie Audran) is sent to their home to serve as their cook, the family is tempted to indulge in the lavish, celebratory feast of gourmet food and drink prepared by Babette.
