“This work is a blending of movement, staging, set, light, video, and sound. It is as if you entered a memory and you are trying to navigate the complexity of the pathways that created it.” Juniper Shuey, co-artistic director of zoe | juniper
“Equally ravenous dancers, Ms. Scofield and Ariel Freedman, could be twins or different sides of the same person.” Siobhan Burke, The New York Times
We are one. We are many.
Dancers perform intense, primal choreography, as parallel solos weave in and out of each other, creating multiple layers of self, memory, and perspective. The movement unfolds within an intricate play of video, light, and sound—at times revealing the performers, at times fading them away like a memory out of reach. Against a pile of red dirt and a beautiful hand cut paper wall, the past as a fixed foundation gives way to one of shifting sands as experiences are reformed and rewritten.
BeginAgain takes audiences on a viscerally stunning and visually captivating journey that explores the beautiful yet messy, complex, even violent nature of life and humanity.
zoe | juniper, a Seattle-based company founded by choreographer Zoe Scofield and visual artist Juniper Shuey, is driven by the idea of mythologizing the experience of our senses. Zoe Scofield recently presented her work as part of What I Learned About Outer Space in the 2014 Fringe Festival. BeginAgain is performed by Zoe Scofield, Ariel Freedman, formerly of the Batsheva Dance Company, and Kim Lusk.
