A Benefit for Manfred Fischbeck

On October 11th, Manfred Fischbeck, beloved co-founder and co-director of Group Motion and dance professor at University of the Arts, was struck by a car in front of the Community Education Center in West Philadelphia. His injuries were substantial as are his medical costs. Following months in intensive care, he has recently moved to an acute care facility and still has a long road ahead of him.  On January 30th, the Philadelphia arts community will come together to support Manfred and his recovery.

The evening will include performances by Fidget, Asimina Chremos, Laura Peterson (NY), dancers from Ballet X, Silvana Cardell, Brian Sanders/Junk, Brigitta Herrmann, dance films by Subcircle and Aura Fischbeck and additional performances by Nichole Canuso, Heather Murphy, Christy Lee and more! ALL PROCEEDS will go towards Manfred’s medical costs. Any additional donations made during your ticket order checkout will also go towards the benefit.

Ticket price includes a special reception following the performance with food donated by Frog Commissary, beer, wine and a special cocktail in honor of Manfred. 

About Manfred Fischbeck

Manfred Fischbeck, co-founder and co-director of Group Motion Multi Media Dance Theater and the Group Motion Workshop, has been active as a dancer, musician, poet, choreographer, teacher, and director in Philadelphia since 1968. He created and directed numerous original works and collaborations in dance and dance theater, and toured nationally and internationally with Group Motion Company.

In partnership with co-founder and co-director Brigitta Herrmann, he directs and facilitates the Group Motion workshop every Friday night at the Community Education Center in Philadelphia, and retreats across the country and abroad. He is co-author of their book “Group Motion in Practice”.  In addition to creating multi-media dance theater works and leading workshops at Group Motion, Manfred has been an integral part of the city’s educational community. From 1983 to the present he has been on the faculty of the University of the Arts as Adjunct Associate Professor; and from 1982 to the present he has lectured regularly as part of the Theater Arts Department of the University of Pennsylvania, and in 2011 became lecturer at Georgian Court University.
