Land, sea, and air—the Shaky, Shaky Players are everywhere! Cruise through a multidimensional dive with TacoSharks and America’s favorite heroic duo, Tom Bosley and the Creature From the Black Lagoon. But first, get your head shaved and eat some Chow Fun while enjoying a Nautical Cabaret. Then stay for a dance party!
Benthic Blast is written and performed by SpArc Services’ Shaky Shaky Players in collaboration with Elizabeth Hollon. The Shaky Shaky Players created three previous Fringe performances: Shaky Shaky Planet, in collaboration with Emily Schumacher; DOOM PLAY, in collaboration with Gedney Barclay; and The TV Show! in collaboration with Kate Ferencz. The mission of SpArc Services is to support people with disabilities by providing programs and services that encourage inclusion, independence, and personal achievement and provide services through programs designed to fit each individual and develop personal goals and milestones for growth. These services include the Cultural Arts Center, a program that fosters creativity, growth, and community connections for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through education and experiences in the visual and performing arts. Its foundation is a curriculum of classes taught by educators from the Philadelphia arts community, rounded out by opportunities for the program’s artists to participate in exhibitions, workshops, and long-term projects with like-minded artists and organizations. Artists from the Cultural Arts Center have exhibited their work throughout the Philadelphia area in venues including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, City Hall, and Tyler School of Art. They have collaborated with organizations including FringeArts, Second State Press, and Awbury Arboretum.
