An original dance work conceived and created by Philly-based artist Evalina “Wally” Carbonell, Carry Me is for those who carry us, those we carry, and all that we carry inside. Five women imprint themselves onto the space with softness and force, leading us down pathways that reveal the dance within.

$20 / 50 minutes

EVALINA CARBONELL (Dance Artist) known affectionately as “Wally,” is a Philadelphia-based dance artist. A passionate performer, creator, and teacher, she received her early training at the National Ballet School in Maryland. She went on to earn her BFA in Dance from Florida State University. Upon graduation, Evalina joined the Roxey Ballet Company, dancing as a principal artist from 2005-2011. In 2012, Evalina joined the internationally active, Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers. In addition to her work with KYL/D, she works nationally and locally, choreographing and presenting her own work, performing as a guest artist, and teaching dance, Gyrotonic, and Gyrokinesis. In Philadelphia, her work has been presented as Koresh Dance Company’s, “Come Together Festival,” KYL/D’s, “Inhale Performance Series,” and Chisena Danza’s, “Evening of Duets,” amongst other platforms. In 2017, Evalina was the recipient of the Ellen Forman Award, an honor given annually to a Philadelphia-based choreographer in conjunction with a commission to set her work on Drexel University’s Dance Ensemble. As a teaching artist, Evalina has shared her artistic stylings at University of the Arts, Swarthmore College, Temple University, Towson University, Bryn Mawr College, and Indiana University, along with many independent studios. Her relationship with the Philadelphia Fringe Festival has been an ongoing one, as she has co-produced three consecutive Fringe Festival dance productions, and is proud to be producing her own show as an independent choreographer in this year’s Festival. Evalina is an innovator who creates sensual, inspired, highly physical dance that seeks to communicate, unearthing humanity, and framing it with clarity. This September, Evalina “Wally” Carbonell premieres her new work Carry Me, an evening-length dance work for five women dedicated to those we carry, those who carry us, and all that we carry inside. “She is the first, she is the last She is the future and the past, Mother of all, of earth and sky She carries me to the other side” -Jennifer Berezan
