“The effects pedals, dub influences, and baroque instrumentation all slip into place, like pieces of broken plates glued together into a landscape mosaic, with Schott at its center, beckoning you into her world.” –Consequence of Sound
Colleen is the alias of French musician Cécile Schott. Over the course of her four previous albums on The Leaf Label and Second Language, she has consistently reinvented herself by taking acoustic instruments out of their usual context and pushing the boundaries of their playability, with compositions ranging from the mysterious and contemplative to kinetic and playful.
Her new album Captain of None, scheduled for release on Thrill Jockey in April 2015, is the most melodic in her repertoire, with fast-paced tracks rooted by prominent bass lines and her instruments of choice, the treble viola da gamba and her voice. It features delicately crafted, other-worldly pop songs incorporating dub-inspired techniques.
Colleen will play songs from the new album as well as selections from 2013’s The Weighing of the Heart.
