Five collaborators intertwine dancing and singing in an exploration of endearment, serenade, and whimsy. The performers (Tori Breen, Rodney Murray, Maddy Mikami, Lilly McGonigle, and Katherine Desimine) all consider themselves dancers first, and then singers, and are exploring how to break open that notion, and find as much power and confidence in their singing voices as in their dancing bodies. The singing voice feels less familiar, less predictable than their dancing bodies, and at the same time, exciting and full of somatic opportunities. They strive to make the singing voice equal to the dancing, not an afterthought or an add-on, but an integral component of the piece.
The performers question: what can we learn when we put these two mediums together? How might our attention to embodiment propose creative strategies for singing in practice and performance? Themes of both ritual and youthfulness arise as the performers move in and out of vocalization, physical partnering, and dynamic movement.
