REV Theatre Company brings a fresh contemporary vision to existing dramatic works and company created new pieces. We believe that theatre is an experience, an event: the worlds we create are visceral and immediate. The REV aesthetic fuses a profound exploration of the texts with a ferocious emotional landscape, intensely physical staging and musical production numbers. We present our work in unique and site-specific spaces: we have performed on the steps of the Art Museum, a parking lot in New York, a pier on the Hudson River, a tiny storefront on the Lower East Side of NYC, two Philadelphia cemeteries and the previously empty, disused lot next to the Broad Street Ministry. One of our trademarks is the active involvement of the audiences in our outdoor productions as we bring the audience into the world that we create. We acknowledge and encourage direct communication and response from our audiences, engaging them in a collective participation with the performers, the story, the action, the space and each other. These outdoor productions enable REV to engage with communities that cross racial, cultural, ethnic and economic backgrounds in New York City, Philadelphia, Scranton, throughout Connecticut and upstate New York. REV’s educational outreach programs with at-risk youth and teens are an also essential part of our mission. REV’s Production History Our production of Midsummer Night’s Dream has been presented thus far to over 10,000 people in New York City, Philadelphia, Scranton, throughout Connecticut and upstate New York garnering critical acclaim and extremely enthusiastic responses from audiences. Our adaptation of an Elizabethan play, The Witch of Edmonton has had 2 Off-Off Broadway runs, was invited to be a part of the International Festival of Arts & Ideas in Connecticut, and came to Philadelphia, where the production played to sold-out houses. REV’s productions of Hamlet and Othello were presented in the Southern Tier of New York to three thousand high school and middle school students as part of an educational initiative in partnership with the Goodwill Theatre. Carthaginians by Frank McGuinness was presented as a site-specific piece in iconic Laurel Hill Cemetery as part of the Philadelphia Fringe 2011. REV entered into a partnership with Laurel Hill Cemetery to bring our Graveyard Cabaret to the cemetery for the Philadelphia Fringe. This year’s Death Is A Cabaret Ol’ Chum is our eighth collaboration with Laurel Hill. In 2018 we brought a site-specific and immersive production of Hamlet to the Cemetery, and the production played to capacity audiences throughout the run, and was also presented at the Physick Estate in Cape May.
