About Los Tekis
Los Tekis (“boys” in Quichua, an indigenous language family spoken by the Quechua peoples, primarily living in the Andean highlands), is a Jujuy folklore group. Composed of vocalist Sebastián López with Juanjo Pestoni on percussion, Mauro Coletti on winds, Walter Sader on guitar, and Pucho Ponce on bass, Los Tekis focuses on the music originating in the Argentine Northwest and Bolivia, such as carnavalitos, bailecitos, huaynos and taquiraris, using native instruments such as sikus, zampoñas, quenas and charangos. They made their debut at the 1991 Cafayate Serenade Festival, although they had played together for many years. Their debut album,“Los Tekis,” was released in 1995. Since then, they have amassed an international following, traveling across the Americas each year, and in 2015, they were awarded their first Latin Grammy Award.
On June 23, 2018, their latest release, the CD + DVD “El Carnaval de Los Tekis,” was released after being recorded at the 2018 Jujuy carnival. The DVD includes a short documentary about the group and their work.
