For Colored Girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf, Ntozake Shange’s first work, tells the stories of seven women who have suffered oppression in a racist and sexist society. The choreopoem is an innovative combination of poetry, drama, music, and dance.

With the opening line, dark phrases of womanhood…, you are transported to the world of women—Black women. Through Ntozake Shange’s For Colored Girls, who have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf, we reflect on the “struggles and hard times” of women–Black women–as they “dance to keep from crying” until reaching a place where they “can’t stop smiling” and find “god in themselves” loving “her fiercely.” Kaleidoscope Cultural Arts Collective is honored to present this award winning play.
