For Crying Out Loud is a multimedia installation that addresses the spectacle and phenomena of public crying as it appears on YouTube video diaries. Such virtual interactions are an everyday global occurrence; where people are willing to put themselves on display in their most vulnerable state. This tends to dehumanize an intrinsically human experience. Using my skills as a portrait artist, I have restored these individuals’ humanity by creating delicate, detailed portraits of them. Presenting these beneath their projected video diary facilitates a thoughtful dialogue with the viewer about the public/private image, our desensitized view of communication, and the connection between traditional and contemporary representation. www.veronicacianfrano.com
