I <3 SNOOTY is a work of nearly bad multimedia plushie-puppet theater. This brief virtual performance journeys into the imagination of Snooty, the oldest manatee ever held in captivity, in his final moments. Reunited with some of his dearest manatee friends, he ruminates on love, isolation, and what comes next. Using green screen sets, projection, and toy and shadow puppetry, this silly and loving meditation follows our old friend Snooty through the complexities of captivity and community, life and legacy, and pineapples and strawberries (his favorite snacks!).

I <3 SNOOTY is a collaborative piece made by Raychel Ceciro and Logan Gabriel Schulman. Raychel & Logan are creative and romantic partners who spent the majority of their lives in the great underwater state of Florida.

Note: there is mention of death in this work. Recommended for ages 13+.

About the Artists

Raychel (they/them, she/her) connects performance, ecology, heritage, and social justice, engaging the past with an impossible present through empathy and radical responsibility. Their work has been featured at the Ringling Museum of Art, the National Association for Interpretation Conference, the Annenberg Performing Arts Center, DopoLavoro Teatrale, the Preserve at Germantown Academy, 954 Dance Movement Collective, Ursinus College, the Shoebox Theater Festival, and many sites in Florida. Their work has been supported in residencies and grants from the Hermitage Artist Retreat, the Sarasota Cultural Alliance, the Florida Humanities Council, and the Time Sifters Archaeological Society.

Logan Gabriel Schulman (they/them, he/him) is a queer visual and performance artist, director, cultural educator, and activist. Their performance works unfold as rituals complicating common visions of American faith. Through performance, installation, and video, their practice weaves empathy, criticality, and wonder into reflexive multimedia narratives. Logan has created work for DopoLavoro Teatrale, University of Pennsylvania, Renegade Theater, ReVamp Collective, and more.
