Into the Absurd: A Virtually Existential Dinner Conversation

A dream for the last 15 years at The Idiopathic Ridiculopathy Consortium has been to gather favorite creators and artists around the table to dine together, sharing a meal while delving into what drives our passions and our purpose. It’s in this spirit we invite you to the IRC kitchen for our weekly 50-minute existential dinner conversation, Into the Absurd, A Virtually Existential Dinner Conversation.

In Fringe Festivals past, the IRC has unleashed its interpretation of classic absurdism in stage productions of Eugene Ionesco’s The Chairs, Rhinoceros, Exit the King, and Franz Kafka’s The Castle. In 2020, we are the subjects in a day to day surreal, very absurdist, unending, and terrifying play called COVID. The stage directions are few, the director is absent, the performers have no script, and the audience hasn’t and won’t arrive.

Join the IRC’s Producing Artistic Director Tina Brock Saturdays at 5 pm, where she’ll share in the food of life at the table with artists and creators around the country. We’ll chew the fat and explore what it means to live and to think about art and life in a radically different world, one that is experiencing long-needed change. Bring a beverage, your curiosity, and your questions. Yell over the fence to your neighbors to eavesdrop on the virtual conversation and chat us up in the Zoom dining room. There is no dress code, no waiting list, and no masks required. Though please wear them when you leave the party.

To join us at an adjacent dinner table, RSVP now and click the link sent to your email and enter your name and email address. You’ll receive an invitation after with further instructions on how to join, Saturdays at 5 pm. You can also access Into the Absurd on the IRC’s Facebook page at Facebook Live!

Recommended for ages 18+.

About the Artists

The IRC’s mission is to produce absurdist theater exploring the existential issues illuminating the human condition, promoting reflection on living in a contemporary world. The contemporary world is unfolding in an unexpected fashion, and it’s the challenges and possibilities of a world when it’s safe to gather together again that we’re interested in. There is great work happening now to prepare us for a reimagining of life both on and off the stage when we emerge.
