THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED

How does performing mask theater differ in blacklight vs regular? Why are we using blacklight? What is archetypal mask and dance theater? These questions will be explored during the workshop with director of ArcheDream for Humankind, Patricia Dominguez. Using the company’s blacklight masks, workshop attendees will have the opportunity to create a small solo performance of the character created during the workshop. The focus of the workshop will be investigating the small nuances of movement that involve using only a mask and ones own hands. In bringing the mask to life, group discussions will center around ADHK’s approach to character development and will encourage creating new entrances into one’s own character development. The movement will be an integral part to this process and is adaptable to any one’s body as they need. We will be working in the dark with black lights on and it is recommended to wear all dark clothes for best experience.

Please note: All workshop participants of The Mask Arts Symposium will be able to join our free in-house “Finding Funding & Grants for Artists” workshop. They will also be invited to display their masks in our gallery during our open house Oct 1st & 2nd as well as perform and demonstrate their mask and theater work for a live audience.

About the Artists

Patricia is currently the director of ArcheDream for Humankind and has been with the company since 2008. With a background in dance and puppetry, Patricia found a unique combination of the art forms in the work of ADHK. A curious mover, she aims to examine the relationships of these archetypal characters and their process of communication, and how that is used as a tool for creating performances. In addition to ADHK, she also performs with local choreographers and artists, and teaches pilates
