Phaedra is sexually obsessed with Hippolytus, her son. Hippolytus hates everyone and everything. The crown is burning and everybody is waiting for any excuse to rip the royal family to shreds. Literally. A riot erupts in gruesome hilarity because that’s just human nature, am I right? Svaha returns with Sarah Kane.

Svaha means to go into the fire; to throw yourself into something with all of your heart, body, and soul. Svaha Theatre Collective produces theatre that strives to find the epic in the everyday, to find the universal in the specific, and to uncover the collective connections within the individual human experience. Their productions explore the infinite potential of the human body, voice, mind, and soul through physically inspired interpretations of text. As the collective marches on into their third year, it is Svaha’s goal to create an environment for theatre artists to explore their craft and to train on a regular basis in order to build a stronger, more supportive ensemble and to create increasingly challenging theatre. The collective emerged from director and founder, Elise D’Avella’s Masters Thesis project at Villanova University which generated their first production, Crave by Sarah Kane, performed in the 2016 Philadelphia Fringe Festival. The collective followed this up with a world premiere adaptation of August Strindberg’s Miss Julie in the 2017 Fringe Festival. Now in their third year, they are producing two shows. That’s right, two! Phaedra’s Love is being produced in conjunction with LONG TROUBLE as part of their THE CROWN IS BURNING series. Audiences can attend either show for $10 or both for $18. We look forward to celebrating our third year with you. Into the fire!
Xoxo, Svaha
