Real PlaNet Life is a reality TV show made by and for aliens. It’s Real Housewives meets E.T. meets the Muppets. Following a screening of one of the show’s most famous episodes, the stars gather to greet their fans, make confessions, and Get Real. Old feuds resurface, grievances are aired, and unexpected alien truths come out.
Featuring a short film created by Applied Mechanics as part of their ongoing OTHER ORBITS project, Real PlaNet Life is a chance to dive into the camp of reality TV and the fantasy of utopian conflict-resolution simultaneously.
Applied Mechanics is Philadelphia longest-standing immersive theater company. Presenting at the Fringe for the first time since 2016, they invite audiences into a technicolor world of talking blackberries, grumpy mushrooms, walrus mamas, talking bacteria, elegant whales, shy mutants and an extraterrestrial group living experiment that is truly one of a kind.
Appropriate for ages 13+

About the Artist
Applied Mechanics has been making original, immersive theater since 2009. They have made over a dozen original works, including the punk rock music performance We Are Bandits, the multi-media installation This Is On Record, and the satirical invasion The Colonialists. Each piece is created with a radically collaborative process that empowers collaborating artists and attending audiences. Their current project, OTHER ORBITS, is a multi-modal science fiction epic, unfolding in nine episodes over two years. Applied Mechanics has toured from Texas to Maine, conducted workshops at Microsoft and Turner Broadcasting, and performed with Nadya Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot. Their work celebrates the New Philly Aesthetic. They are Severin Blake, Thomas Choinacky, Jessica Hurley, Brett Robinson, Izzy Sazak, MK Tuomanen, and Rebecca Wright. Their art is an exercise in agency, connection, wild imagination, mutual aid, and the joyful work of building new futures. Imagination is a call to action. The portal is open.
