February Lineup:
You Are The Hero by Daniel Park
You Are The Hero is your chance to be the hero on an epic journey to save the world from an ultimate evil! Progress and Growth have forgotten their rightful place in the holy pantheon, the true goddess Happiness has been thrown from the sky, and the Door to the Apocalypse has come unlocked. With dangers and traps around every corner you’ll have to be courageous, powerful, and wise if you hope to bring the story to a victorious end. And be careful, because Game Over does exist!
On The Road for 17527 Miles by 14th Street/Mike Durkin
In restless pursuit of a sense of purpose, four incurably young adults embark on a road trip across the country, using Jack Kerouac’s On the Road as their map and epiphany as their destination. But while obsessively following Sal Paradise’s footsteps as faithfully as their GPS will take them, the friends lose sight of the trip of their lives. Drawing from the iconography of the Beat generation, personal anecdotes, and the deconstructed GPS directions created by Gregor Weichbrodt of Kerouac’s legendary journey, 14th Street presents an electroacoustic opera about growing up, striking out, and finding our place in this world.
PointBold: A Neighborhood Project by Lee Ann Etzold
PointBold: A Neighborhood Project is an oral history project based in and created by performing artists in the Point Breeze and New Bold communities of Philadelphia.
Proxies by Asimina Chremos and Jonathan Pfeffer
Asimina Chremos, improvisational dancer/artist, and Jonathan Pfeffer, composer/performer, comprise the duo Proxies, formed in 2014 to mine the narrow threshold between their two disparate approaches. Chremos, whose practice has evolved from a pointed reaction against the austerity of ballet while Pfeffer’s rigorous compositions are often consequences of experiments with text and language. Proxies functions as an ongoing investigation into the semi-sweet spot between Apollonian restraint and Dionysian abandon.
The Danny Sparrow Songs by Alex Bechtel
The Danny Sparrow Songs is a song cycle about identity. Alex Bechtel and a four-piece band takes the audience through a series of songs, scenes, and conversations, surrounding questions about the existence of inherent identity.
