The audience enters a dimly lit black box theatre and sees an empty boxing ring in the center of the space. It’s reminiscent of a fight night spectacular, a good ol’ fashioned Rocky vs. Creed bout. When the spectators reach their seats, they must blindly cast their vote for a victor in each round. Only the actors know the outcome. The Master of Ceremony jumps up and announces the contenders. The first two contenders hop into the ring. The bell rings. They fight.
The Vs. Series is an interactive and collaborative event that requires its audiences to think deeply about their own opinions and actions, showing them how their votes can directly impact an outcome. Area playwrights submitted short plays that pit two opposites against each other (Peanut Butter vs. Jelly, Miley vs. Mozart, and more). Local directors, fight choreographers and actors took those scripts and created a five round fight night event, ending each round with a choreographed fight and a clear victor.
