2018 Fringe Festival

Runtime TBA

The Whole ShebangMap

A chance dance. Macy’s department store. Mom cried outside. Screaming “DECAPITATION.” Radical and precious bodies. Attempting to be non-performative, remaining informational. Explosive and dramatic, quiet and dedicated. Play the game of telephone. Memorable intimacies, or lack of. Equal playing ground.

$10 / 45 minutes

Maura Bailey is a dance artist with a focus in modern dance. She graduated from The University of the Arts in Spring of 2018 with a BFA in dance under the direction of Donna Faye Burchfield. While at The University of the Arts, she has performed in works choreographed by Jesse Zaritt, Sidra Bell, Curt Haworth, Teddy Tedholm, Jimena Paz, Bobbi Jene Smith, Gerard and Kelly, and a collaborated work made with peers, navigated by Lauren Bakst. Maura also had the opportunity to travel to Paris in 2017 for the CAMPING Festival and perform there with her fellow peers under the direction of Lauren Bakst. While there, she studied at the Centre National de la Danse with Vera Mantero and Arno Schuitemaker. Maura’s own choreographic work revolves around the questions of “how can the past begin?” -contorting personal memories into delicate, re-imagined works- and “how can I work to make something else, and what is that something else I am working to make?”

Shelby Tucker is a Native American dance artist who was born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area and moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 2014 to study dance. Shelby graduated from The University of the Arts under the direction of Donna Faye Burchfield in 2018. During her time at the university, Shelby has worked with and performed works by Yasmeen Godder, Mark Hiam, Bobbi Jene Smith, Gerard and Kelly, Jesse Zaritt, and Katie Swords Thurman. Also in her four years with The University of the Arts Shelby has traveled to Israel, France and Belgium where she continued to further her studies in dance. In the summer of 2017 she attended The Centre Nationale de la Danse CAMPING Festival where she performed a work under Lauren Baskt and attended workshops with Sylvie Fortin and Gaëlle Bourges. She recently took her own work Harsh Realties: (re-/de-) to Brooklyn, New York, where it was presented at the Center for Performance Research. Shelby has an interest in collaborative projects as well as choreography and performance. She is interested in process as a performance and the way that the audience meets, reads and views dance.
