UBIQ, also known as the Robin Hood of Sound, is an anonymous sound artist. His work includes public interventions, or “Soundings,” in which he usurps control of existing sound infrastructures and broadcasts familiar ringtones and alerts from digital interfaces.

This is best seen in rare video footage of the Black Friday Sounding at a Wal-Mart in Philadelphia. An anonymous bystander (perhaps UBIQ himself) captured the moment of confusion followed by the awe sparked by the disjointed yet recognizable sound of the Apple ringtone Anticipate. The scale-shift of the smartphone text or email alert to the blasting loudspeakers stunned the frantic Black Friday shoppers into eerie silence.
