Discover the city that you thought you knew by walking its edges:

A true “fringe” experience, Walk Around Philadelphia invites you to explore the perimeter of Philadelphia on foot, and then gather with fellow pilgrims in a special online report-back experience.

Set your own schedule, gather a group, and walk as little or as much of the perimeter as you choose. Maps, guidelines & remote assistance will be provided.

Completing the entire perimeter has taken, in general, ~100 miles spread over five and a half days. It can also be completed in shorter segments, and you don’t have to do it all this year.

The walk can be undertaken or continued even after the Festival is over. A special online event for all involved will take place on Sunday, October 4th at 4pm.

Your ticket gets you access to custom maps and online content, an invite to the online event, and a special perimeter-walking kit that will include limited-edition perimeter-passports, printed maps, reflective safety belts and more.

There will be ASL Interpretation for the talkback on Sunday, October 4.

– Tickets available for purchase (each registration includes a perimeter-walking kit for up to 4 participants).

– Your ticket confirmation provides online access to password-protected content at www.jjtiziou.net/walk & instructions for collecting your kit from the artists’ porch in West Philadelphia.

– Organize your group and start planning your route.

– Head to the perimeter and start walking! Complete as many segments as you’re able to.

– Complete a post-walk survey & share video responses to selected prompts by October 1st.

– Join fellow perimeter-walkers online on Sunday, October 4th to share what you’ve discovered and celebrate what you’ve accomplished!

Happy Hour on the Fringe

In this episode of Happy Hour on the Fringe, Marketing Manager Raina Searles speaks with JJ Tiziou about “Walk Around Philadelphia: A Perimeter Pilgrimage”, which is being presented as part of the 2020 Fringe Festival. This interactive experience gives participants the opportunity to transform their perspective on the city of Philadelphia by circumnavigating the perimeter. JJ describes this journey as an “opportunity to observe, to take in, to discover, and to embark on this in a spirit of curiosity, good will, and open-mindedness… The process of experiencing.” Listen to JJ discuss his own experiences walking the perimeter, the sights and sounds which he has encountered, and the relationships he has developed along the way. JJ discusses how people can get involved with this project, and accessibility.
