It was Fall of 2019 and the pandemic was looming, although we didn’t know it yet. Sherrie Maricle, internationally-renowned jazz drummer and the leader of DIVA Jazz Orchestra, opened a stunning, semi-private jazz club at 2152 East Norris Street. Sherrie wasn’t too sure about becoming a Fringe venue, but she appreciated the invitation, loves tap dance and was a perfect host, welcoming all kinds of new audience members into her space, some of which had never seen or heard jazz before. For four shows, I sold out her space and people crammed (!) in to hear tap dance as it should be heard – accompanied by live jazz music. All good things must come to an end. The venue shuttered and was sold at the beginning of the pandemic, in February 2020.
