Scratch Nights: Open Call
We are extremely excited to announce the return of Scratch Nights!
This spring, FringeArts will produce 4 installments of new and experimental work at various stages of development. Whether you are still brainstorming ideas, or ready to present samples of finished work, Scratch Nights put your work into conversation with fellow artists and audiences, and they give you the chance to engage with invaluable feedback.
As we create our new scratch night series, we would love your feedback and insight into what would make scratch nights uniquely fun and useful to your artists process(es). We will tailor each scratch night to the wants and desires of the pieces submitted to the open call. Please fill out the following form to share what you’re working on and feel free to pitch out of the box ideas for our Scratch night program!
Scratch Nights will happen on the following Monday Nights:
March 03, April 07, May 12, + June 09
Each night will be shaped around the work presented; we are looking to respond to the needs of each piece selected to perform. Every performance at every stage has different needs, and we are looking for a variety of pieces. There is no set length or form your work needs to be. We will work with you to figure how we can best support your work and best solicit feedback from the audience – whatever stage it’s in.
In short: Scratch Nights are back, and we want to hear from YOU about what your art needs.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
The deadline for submission into each Scratch night will be 1 month before the performance date (e.g. the deadline for 3/3 is 2/3).
Some examples of what you can share:
- Preview a new style of choreography
- Present a section of a piece in rehearsal
- Debut a new character you’re working on
- Experiment with a new devising technique
- Chat with a captive audience about your ideas
- Anything else you can dream of sharing
Here’s also a variety of audience feedback tools:
- Moderated Talkbacks
- Physical feedback forms
- Digital survey tools
- Facilitated small group conversations
- Casual audience mingling/chatting without any facilitation
- I don’t really want verbal feedback from an audience–I just want to feel the vibe!
Completion of the open call is not a guarantee that we will have space/availability for your show. We will do our best to accommodate as many artists that we can meaningfully support. This open call is open to all artists in the Philadelphia community, even if you have not participated in the festival before.
All scratch nights will happen at the FringeArts Theatre in Old City at 140 N Columbus Blvd.
Scratch nights have Pay-What-You-Can ticketing starting from $0. All ticket proceeds generated will be proportionally split amongst the artists participating on a given night. Each artist’s proportion of ticket sales will be determined by the number of artists and the scale of presentation. There is no minimum guaranteed artist fee. There is also no fee to the artist for participation.
Simon will serve as the host and producer of all these events. Questions can be sent to Simon@FringeArts.com
