Tonight: The Tortoise and the Play
This summer has been freakishly awesome. These beautiful days will come to an end, someday soon, when the mid-Atlantic humidity sinks down upon us, and there’s nothing to do but hunker down somewhere and drink gin-and-some-variety-of-cooling-agent.
In the meantime, tonight you should pretend you’re spoiled and that you’re in L.A. and the weather is like this all the time, and head indoors for one of these here gigs:
>>>Now in its fifth year, PlayPenn‘s new play development program kicks off its public performance component tonight with a reading of Willi Holzman’s The Morini Strad. Visit PlayPenn’s calendar for the full schedule. All events are free, all at the Adrienne Theatre, 2030 Sansom Street. But reservations are requested: call 215-568-1434 once you’ve decided what you’re checking out this year. Highly recommended.
>>>Remember back when we lived in these big rambling apartments in Chicago, smoking cigarettes and drinking Old Style and grilling on the fire escape before heading out to the Double Door to see one of the many bands spinning out of the center that seemed to be Tortoise? Me too. Also highly recommended, at 8:00 pm tonight they’re at the First Unitarian Church, and it looks like tix are still available. $16 advance, $18 at the door, First Unitarian Church, 2125 Chestnut Street. Grey Reverend opens.
