The Weekender: What You’re Doing and Why

Posted July 24th, 2009

My, you’re busy this weekend:

>>>Tonight: Pig Iron’s Dan Rothenberg says you should join him at this PlayPenn workshop: painter Alexandra Grant and poet Michael Joyce and Dan are going to talk experimental shop and about drawing audiences in. From Dan’s email: “I had the good fortune to work with Alexandra and Michael to create sound pieces for Alexandra’s first solo show at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. Almost all of Alexandra’s ‘word-bubble’ paintings are based on poems by Michael. It’s been a pretty exciting collaboration, how words turned to paintings turned to sounds and then became videos that Alexandra created at a later date.” 6:00 pm, free, Adrienne Theatre, 2030 Sansom Street, Philadelphia. Reservations recommended: 215-568-1434.

>>>Tonight: fundraiser for The Sixth Borough comedy group’s trip to Milwaukee. Party/reception at 7:00 pm, show starts at 8:30, $10 BYOB, Connie’s Ric Rac, 1132 South 9th Street, Philadelphia.

>>>All weekend: Rennie Harris Puremovement’s Illadelph Legends Festival rolls on through Sunday, at UArts. Visit their website for more details.

>>>All weekend: We’re at the XPoNential Music Festival this weekend, helping rock the Theatre Alliance table. If you’re going, stop on by and say hello.

>>>Sunday: Music & Motion Dance is offering a cool sneak preview of their Fringe show this Sunday, along the Schuylkill River at Boathouse Row. Precise location: The Back Deck at Lloyd Hall, #1 Boathouse Row, at the corner of Kelly Drive and Waterworks Drive. Topic: inspiration. Title: the 9 muses.
