The Weekender: What You’re Doing and Why

Posted July 31st, 2009

Have you seen this forecast? Zeus is seriously messing with your weekend. What will appease him, and free you to do these things?

>>>Shakespeare in Clark Park. I plugged this already but hey, it’s every night through Sunday, and it’s well worth your time. Unlike this video of Ron Artest’s rap concert debut in China that my friend Eric sent me earlier today. To be fair, Eric said it was “not terrible,” and I suppose that’s true.

>>>I’m going to a wedding tomorrow and hanging out with out-of-town guests all weekend. But if I wasn’t making big fun that way, there are two nearby-yet-away things worth checking out. The first, is All Points West. I’m not normally much of a festival person, but tonight, Jay-Z headlines, which is pretty good. And tomorrow features Tool and My Bloody Valentine, who will be so loud I might be able to hear it at the wedding anyway. Tix still available, and if you have kids under five, they’re free, so you can get a head start on burning out their ears. And will somebody get MBV do a show in Philly already???

>>>The second, also tomorrow night: Depeche Mode at the Borgata in Atlantic City. All reports are that this tour is fantastic. Oops, sadly for you, it’s sold out.

>>>But did you know that the Franklin Institute is finally trying to capitalize on their IMAX? The new Harry Potter movie is playing there, saving you the evil, malevolent drive to King of Prussia.
