The Knight Arts Challenge finalists announced: The best idea for the arts in Philadelphia.

Posted January 19th, 2011

“What’s your best idea for the arts in Philadelphia?”

Yesterday, The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation announced 63 finalists for the best answers to the above question. 63 finalists out of the astounding 1,752 people who responded.

Submitted last fall, applicants for the Knight Arts Challenge had to answer this question following only three rules. “The idea must be about art, must take place in or benefit Philadelphia, and winners must find funds (within a year) to match Knight Foundation’s grant.” Also, submissions were written in 150 words. Winners will be announced in the spring.

Philadelphia is the second city to be invited to participate in the Knight Arts Challenge. The program began in Miami in 2008.

We are honored to be one of the 63 finalists! We would also like to extend our congratulations to all of the finalists including Nichole Canuso Dance Company, Pig Iron Theatre Company, Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, and the Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia!
