Show Yourself: Call for First Person RAW

Posted March 31st, 2011

When asked what she likes best about First Person’s RAW, Karina Kacala, the marketing coordinator for First Person Arts, doesn’t miss a beat. “It is exciting to see a piece growing. [For example,] in terms of Justin Jain, it has been great to watch his piece appear and reappear knowing that it started with RAW.”

First Person Arts invites creators of memoir and documentary art in any discipline to submit their work to be considered for the second season of First Person RAW, a showcase of new work or works-in-progress at the 10th Anniversary First Person Festival of Memoir and Documentary Art, November 11-20, 2011 They’re looking for writers, dancers, actors, spoken word artists, filmmakers, and anyone with a story to tell and work to share. They give you the raw space, basic tech, publicity support, and – most importantly – a unique opportunity to present your craft to Philadelphia’s community of memoir and documentary artists, enthusiasts, supporters, and participants.

Application deadline: May 2, 2011.

2010 First Person RAW artist Justin Jain says, “The First Person RAW experience played a huge part in the development of my piece, shiFt / transFer, which is now in its second phase of workshops. The opportunity to present the work as part of the festival allowed me to gain valuable audience feedback, both in the live performance of the work and through post-show discussions.”
