Philly Fringe Vital Stats: Annie R. Such
The Artists’ Women goes up at the Philadelphia Art Alliance.
This year YeuxVeuxBelle Collective, a trio of alumni from the Ira Brind School of Theater Arts at the University of the Arts, brings The Artists’ Women to Philly Fringe. The original work follows a young woman guided by historical figures of creative coupling: the male artists’ female muse. There’s Gala Dalí, wife of Salvador Dalí, and with whose blood he claimed to paint; and Dora Maar, Picasso’s lover, and a photographer and poet in her own right. Playwright Annie R. Such answered our questions.

Where were you born? Born a Hoosier, raised a Texan.
Where do you live now? South Philly.
Show Title: The Artists’ Women.
Explain your performance in 2 sentences. To an 8-year-old. A bunch of girls talk about boys and why they suck or don’t suck. And one boy gets mad at a girl because she took away his package of gushers so he dresses up like a girl to get back at her.
What was your favorite toy as a kid? My costume trunk.
What would you do if you just inherited a pizzeria? Immediately hire a team of Eskimos. That will confuse people.
Your refrigerator: condiments and beer, or real food? I have a refrigerator?
What’s the worst piece of advice you ever received? Did you follow it? Own your gas. Yes.
Do you have relatives more famous than you? My great-great-great grandfather founded a city in Arkansas and my uncle was besties with Tom Cruise for a week and a half back in the early 1990s.
The Artists’ Women runs September 14 and 15 at 8:00 pm, September 15 and 16 at 4:30 pm, and September 16 at 11:00 am at Philadelphia Art Alliance, 251 South 18th Street. $15.
