La Peg Fundraiser for PMBL Treasure Beach Basketball Camp

Posted June 15th, 2016

This Friday 5-8pm La Peg Brasserie at Fringe Arts, on the corner of Race Street and Columbus Boulevard, is hosting a happy hour fundraiser to benefit the Fourth Annual Philadelphia Mans Basketball League (PMBL) camp in Treasure Beach, Jamaica.basketball camp

Four years ago Jake Kind was at a 76ers game when he was offered the opportunity to start a basketball camp in Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica. PMBL was able to raise money not only for basketballs and jerseys, but for solar lighting and irrigation for the rural communities of Saint Elizabeth. Four years later, Kind remarks that the camp has expanded, the kids who attended the camp in its first year come back happier, more confident, and new campers come in excited to learn. “I’m always amazed by the energy and enthusiasm of the kids,” says Kind.

The camp is not about shooting three pointers or becoming the strongest player, its goal is to spark positive social change through basketball. Campers get attention from 20-25 coaches and current college basketball players, gain the opportunity to be leaders among their peers, and have structured, productive fun during the summer. The money raised by PMBL will provide each camper with daily bus transportation to and from the camp, three meals a day, sneakers, socks, reversible jerseys, basketball shorts, and basketballs.

Brad Histand of La Peg has organized the fundraiser. For $20 you can eat and drink as much as you want. Allagash, Slyfox, Vintage Imports, Baldor, Julius Silvert, and Wells Meats have donated beer, wine, burgers and hotdogs for this event. In addition to burgers and beer there will be a raffle to win a handful of gift cards to great Philly restaurants. Enjoy your Friday evening in the beer garden and support the PMBL camp in Treasure Beach.
