Experiments in Dance: Chase Cycle and I call the violet moon vinca
Gwyneth Zeleny Anderson and Britt Whitmoyer Fishel
April 6, 2025
New dance pieces by local choreographers Gwyneth Zeleny Anderson and Britt Whitmoyer Fishel.
Chase Cycle by Gwyneth Zeleny Anderson: Sometimes the cartoon predator chases the cartoon prey for so long that the smoke billows and we lose track: who’s chasing who? We pursue and work jobs in order to survive, and fantasize about leaving them due to their vampiric nature. We desire to connect meaningfully with others, and avoid the discomfort of vulnerability. A squeaky dance experiment, Chase Cycle embodies the cartoonish reality of living a loop of desire and avoidance. Performed by Frances Owoh, Shalayah Kinder, Madeline Shuron, and Daisy DeLucia, with choreography and props by Gwyneth Zeleny Anderson. gwynethvzanderson.com
I call the violet moon vinca by Britt Whitmoyer Fishel: I call the violet moon vinca contends with universal truths about womanhood—its intricacies, its strength, and its capacity for endurance. The piece speaks not only to the individual but also to the collective, sharing the emotional and spiritual weight that many carry. Highlighting the seasonal nature of life’s emotional and physical narratives, the work exposes how experiences of hurt, healing, and survival can loop and transform over time. It reminds us that, like the seasons, we will go through moments of darkness and light, but ultimately, we continue on.
