Philly Fringe Vital Stats: Telephone Bronco

Our marvelous programming intern, Emma Ferguson, isn’t just Pia’s minion. She’s also the latest in the line of innovative theater producers coming out of Swarthmore and the co-founder of the Telephone Bronco Theater Company. Their show Cartogoraphasia will premiere at the 2010 Philly Fringe. Get to know them, and go to their show!

It’ll be South Philly, but I was conceived at Swarthmore College.

What’s your show title?
Cartogoraphasia.

What was the first thing you stole?
The (true!) story of a 14th century epileptic nun named Hildegaard. But I gave it back.

What’s your favorite alcoholic beverage?
Member Eric Holzhauer’s ginger beer: Bucking Bronco Brew.

What was the last performance you saw?
A reading of Etched in Skin, directed by Becky Wright, at Play Penn.

What’s your favorite Philly intersection?
5th and Poplar, duh.

Who’s your favorite Phillies player?
Benjamin Franklin.

Do you have relatives more famous than you?
Pig Iron Theater Company. Distant relation.

What’s your least favorite country, and why?
Probably the hippocampus. That’s a country, right?

Do you own a gun? If so, have you fired it in anger?
No, and no. Also, I don’t have hands yet.

Do you have pets?
One of our members is a Bear named Jessica.

What’s the most disgusting thing you’ve ever seen on SEPTA?
Louis Jargow.

Age: 22.

Where do you live now? Northern Liberties.

Where were you born? Boston, Mass.

What was the first thing you stole?
A little rubber stopper from a craft store near my house. I was 7.

What’s your favorite alcoholic beverage?
Tactical Nuclear Penguin.

What was the last performance you saw?
Rosanne Cash at the Xponential festival!

What’s your favorite Philly intersection?
The intersection of artistic vision and driving ambition.

What’s the worst thing you ever did for money?
Cocktail waitressed.

Who’s your favorite Phillies player?
I’m a Red Sox fan. Don’t look at me like that.

What’s your least favorite country, and why?
Yemen. Seems like a bad place to be right now. Nothing personal.

Do you own a gun? If so, have you fired it in anger?
No, and no, but I’m a good shot with a Beretta.

If you weren’t an artist, what would your job be?

I would be an interior decorator! At the moment, I’m a Live Arts Festival intern.

What’s the most disgusting thing you’ve ever seen on SEPTA?
Somebody peeing.

Where do you live now?
I’m currently a rising senior at Swarthmore College but I’m from Burlington, Vermont.

Where were you born?
Silver Spring, Maryland.

What was the first thing you stole?
A Barbie doll dress from my friend Eleanor’s house. She still doesn’t know.

What’s your favorite alcoholic beverage?
Magic Hat #9. Represent Vermont!

What was the last performance you saw?
Three Sisters at the Temple Repertory Theater.

What’s your favorite Philly intersection?
18th and Walnut.

Where do you live now?
Swarthmore for school, but Williamstown, Mass. is really home.

Where were you born? San Antonio, Texas.

What was the first thing you stole?
I remember carrying off a whole bunch of markers from school because I was didn’t think the other kids were using them well. I hope my artistic pretension has gotten a little better since then.

What’s your favorite alcoholic beverage?
Porch Swing: gin, Pimms, lemon soda, and cucumber. Perfect for the heat wave.

What’s your favorite Philly intersection?
Spring Garden and Art Museum Drive. I’d spend all my time there if I could.

What’s the worst thing you ever did for money?
Three summers of grilling hot dogs at a golf course has given me a lifetime aversion to hot dogs and golf.

Do you have pets?
A hellcat named Greylock, who fights coyotes in his spare time.

If you weren’t an artist, what would your job be?
Classical archaeologist. Seriously, I get really excited about bucchero pottery.

Books! I steal a lot of books. My favorite has been Bolano’s 2666.

Smuttynose Old Brown Dog Ale.

What was the last performance you saw?
The preview of NPL/ Riot Group’s FREEDOM CLUB.

What’s your favorite Philly intersection?
Ah, 13th and Pine? Or 45th and Spruce.

What’s the worst thing you ever did for money?
Canvassing is the most disheartening thing to have to do.

What’s your least favorite country, and why?
I’ve only had a backwards hangover and all of my gear stolen in the Czech Republic.

Highschoolhandjob.

Age: 22.

Where do you live now?
New York City.

Where were you born?
Princeton, N.J.

What’s your favorite alcoholic beverage?
Right now, Sam Adams’ Blackberry Witbier.

What was the last performance you saw?
On The Levee at LTC3.

What’s your favorite Philly intersection?
Callowhill and 5th.

What’s your least favorite country, and why?
Transylvania, I’m afraid of vampires.

Where were you born? Larchmont, New York.

What was the first thing you stole?
A really cool pin from a church tag sale. It was by accident. Then I realized it and cried. Yeah, I was that kid.

What’s your favorite alcoholic beverage?
Currently, I’m really into cranberry juice and vodka.

What was the last performance you saw?
Etched in Skin on a Sunlit Night—woo Playpenn!

What’s the worst thing you ever did for money?

I jumped into an eel infested lake for $25 bucks. Mistake.

What’s your least favorite country, and why?
Never met a country I didn’t like. Seriously.

Guns scare me.

Name: Eric Holzhauer.

Age: 22.

Where do you live now? Swarthmore.

Where were you born? Worcester, Mass.

What was the first thing you stole?
When I was very young, I remember the library said I didn’t return a book, and I was totally sure I did, and argued my way out of the replacement fee, or rather, my mother did it for me. In retrospect, I probably just lost it.

What’s your favorite alcoholic beverage? Pilsner Urquell.

What’s your favorite Philly intersection?
That one with the bar stool store.

What’s the worst thing you ever did for money?
Took out student loans. Let’s hope I’m employed when they come due in a few months.

Who’s your favorite Phillies player?
Red Sox fan, I’m afraid.

What’s your least favorite country, and why? Mordor.

Do you own a gun? If so, have you fired it in anger?
I used to have some BB guns. Unless I didn’t realize how upset I was by paper targets and action figures, I never fired them in anger.

Me, probably.
