Actor Alex Bechtel is training with those Pig Iron kids, has acted with troupes and in venues ranging from Applied Mechanics to The Walnut Street Theatre, and will seize the day at the 2012 Philly Fringe with Jeff Coon and Ben Dibble Must Die, the story of two men hungry for fame and fortune in the footlights of Philadelphia. Is his group, Los Jarochos, named after this place? He didn’t tell us. But hey, we didn’t ask, so that’ll remain one of life’s little mysteries, I suppose. After the jump: THE POWER OF GRAYSKULL!

Explain your performance in 2 sentences. To an 8-year-old. Two of Philly’s most beloved actors get murdered. By us.

Do you have children? If so, do you love them? Not that I know of. But if I do have kids somewhere out there, I want them to know that I love them very much.

What was your favorite toy as a kid? He-Man Castle Grayskull Playset. Boom.

What do you love (or hate) most about Philadelphia audiences? The sense of community. The fact that you develop a relationship with the people who see theater.

What would you do if you just inherited a pizzeria? Run it like it’s my job. I think I secretly wish I had any talent for the culinary arts—I would love to have a restaurant.

Did you go to college or grad school? I went to UArts for theatre and am halfway through my post-grad training at The Pig Iron School For Advanced Performance Training.

Your refrigerator: condiments and beer, or real food? All of the above.

Favorite coffee shop? What do you order? Man, that’s tough. I love coffee shops. I have a favorite for each neighborhood. South Philly though: B2 (and you’ve gotta have the #4 sandwich on an everything bagel).

Marvel Comics, or DC? . . . nerd.

What’s the most disgusting thing you’ve ever seen on SEPTA? An empty track as I waited for a subway train for over 20 minutes. Gross people and events I can handle. You’re supposed to see that on a subway. You know what else you’re supposed to see? Trains. That run regularly.

Do you have relatives more famous than you? Nope. My uncle was a producer for the Carol Burnett Show. That’s all I got.

Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” or Cookie Monster’s “Share It Maybe”? Gotta be true to the original. A true work of poetry.
