Why did you want to start working at Fringe?
I was always interested in why and how events draw crowds. Sometimes when I’m at a performance I just look back at the audience and wonder how they all got here. So working at Fringe gave me all the answers to these questions and better insight into Philadelphia’s performance art scene.
If I was going on vacation, where would you recommend? Why?
Anywhere that has a big hot-beverage culture. I liked Istanbul and Morocco because I was never without a small glass cup of tea, its very comforting to have something so cozy and familiar with you when you’re in a new place. Also Italy, because you can get a really nice espresso for a euro.
Where is your favorite place in Philly?
Definitely Chinatown. You can get some really delicious meals on the cheap, and it often feels like that neck of the woods never closes.

Which of the FringeArts dogs is your favorite?
This is like asking a parent who their favorite child is. I love all the dogs equally. 🙂
What is one thing you wish everyone at FringeArts knew about you?
I have a low key obsession with soup dumplings.
If I was going on vacation, where would you recommend? Why?
Reykjavik, Iceland on New Year’s Eve. The whole city comes together for the midnight firework show- it’s like a neighborhood potluck x’s 50! Everyone self assembles; no cops, no program director, just everyone being super happy and hopeful for the future, and tipsy.

What show are you most excited to see at this year’s festival?
I think I will have to say “Containertopia” by Casual FreyDay. I am really intrigued by the tiny house movement and thus the idea of getting to see a show which captures and discusses both the bad and good of the concept is awesome. They had me at ‘tiny living’, ‘cabaret’ and ‘synthesizer heavy’.
If you could be any superhero, who would you be and why?
Raven from Teen Titans! She can kind of do it all – telekinesis, levitation, magic, multilingualism to the extreme and so on. She seems like not only a force to be reckoned with within the titans but also the rock and voice of reason within the group at the same time.
Zombies have taken over Philly. Who or what is the first thing you grab?
My roommate. She is scary, fearless and owns the biggest kitchen knife I have ever seen.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
Well when I was a kid I told my parents that I wanted to be an engineer when I grew up and they were so excited because they thought I meant like, a mechanical engineer or a programmer or something. What I really meant was that I wanted to be a conductor, like for trains (because trains have engines so wouldn’t it make sense to call them engineers too?). Anyway, now I don’t want to do either of those two things so I’m not totally sure.
What made you want to work at FringeArts?
The variety of programming, the focus on independent and experimental art, and the office’s proximity to a wide selection of nice coffeeshops.
Who let the dogs out?
Ugh. It was Bryce, obviously. She always forgets to close the gate when she leaves which is why I’m walking around my block with a flashlight at 2am looking for my dog, Mango. God, I hate Bryce. Please come back, Mango.

What show are you most excited to see at this year’s festival?
I’m really excited for all the shows depicting queer themes and identities. Dopplebanger and Aunty Ben are definitely at the top of that list for me.
Who’s your favorite musician?
Right now? Courtney Barnett. She’s just such an incredible lyricist. Even if she did lose a Grammy to Megan Trainor.
If I was going on vacation, where would you recommend? Why?
The Middle East! There are some really incredible places. I’ve hugged penguins in Dubai, climbed ruins in Jordan and spent 18 amazing years in Kuwait. Do it!

What is one thing you wish everyone at FringeArts knew about you?
I am willing to walk your dog! Or dog-sit! Or cat-sit!
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I have this dream of starting a theater company for people with various developmental and learning disabilities, as well as people with behavioral and social conditions. Although theater can be used as therapy in short spans for those with various disabilities, they are hardly encouraged to pursue theater in a recreational capacity. Along with that, the company would be geared towards all audiences in ways that are simple, yet hardly done: ASL interpreters, braille programs and scripts, adapted light and sound levels so as to ensure comfort, and the freedom to move around, fidget, and speak as necessary. There is no reason that theater should not be accessible to everyone.
What made you want to work at FringeArts?
I really love the mission of FringeArts – to give art that pushes boundaries a home where it can flourish and grow. New theater, regardless of your personal opinions on it, is incredibly raw and beautiful and deserves to be given as much respect and love as any famous classic.

So far, what’s your favorite part about working at FringeArts?
I love the people. I am sure most of the interns will agree, the office feels like one big family. The work that we are doing, particularly for the impending festival, is rather exciting, but day to day the best part for me is getting to work hands on and learn from the incredible production staff and the artists of the Philadelphia theatre community.
What show are you most excited to see at this year’s festival?
Geoff Sobelle’s HOME is totally going to be a highlight of the festival, without a doubt. I think he is an incredibly thoughtful and innovative artist, and I think the concept behind the production sounds exciting and beautiful. I was familiar with some of his work that has been presented in New York prior to coming to FringeArts, and I am thrilled to have even a small part in the execution of the production for the festival.
Which of the FringeArts dogs is your favorite?
A Production Intern has to pick the production dogs. Daniella and Peyton all the way!

So far, what’s your favorite part about working at FringeArts?
So far, my favorite part about working for FringeArts is learning how a performing arts non-profit functions as an organization. It is interesting to see how the budget is allocated to all the different departments within Fringe – allowing these amazing shows to come to fruition in Philadelphia.
What is one thing you wish everyone at FringeArts knew about you?
I make amazing kale chips and I was an extra in a Netflix show once.
If you could be any superhero, who would you be and why?
One Punch Man – because I like his deadpan sense of humor and the simplicity of his superpower.

Who’s your favorite musician?
I have so many favorite musicians! A few are Bob Weir, Paul Simon, Dave Matthews, Carole King, Eric Clapton, Mike Gordon, Richie Havens, Les Claypool and so many more.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I would love a career as a front of house manager at a concert venue or performance art theater.
What show are you most excited to see at this year’s festival?
A Love Supreme, A Period of Animate Existence, and Home.

Tell me something I don’t know:
I’ve traveled to 13 countries, 29 states and lived in New Zealand for 7 months!
If I was going on vacation, where would you recommend? Why?
Costa Rica is Heaven On Earth. It’s only a 5 hour plane ride (if you fly direct) and it’s beautiful. It has adventure for those who like to hike, zipline or explore the rainforest and it has beautiful beaches for those who like to relax and sip on pina coladas. The people are also so wonderful. New Zealand has all that too and more but it’s more expensive to get to and requires a very long flight.
Pick two celebrities to be your parents. Why them?
Maybe Julia Roberts and whoever her husband is. They seem normal and I love Julia. But I’d never trade in my parents, they are the best.
Zombies have taken over Philly. Who or what is the first thing you grab?
My husband David and a costume. Maybe if we look and act like zombies ourselves we would be overlooked and have a chance to get away.

So far, what’s your favorite part about working at FringeArts?
The dogs. Also getting the chance to work on writing and marketing for emerging artists! But mostly the dogs.
What show are you most excited to see at this year’s festival?
Probably “Life Lines.” I got to meet one of the artists, and I’ve been watching clips of their work for days. It’s going to be epic.
Which of the FringeArts dogs is your favorite?
How am I supposed to answer that?? I’d have to say Scooter’s zen energy, but Porterhouse’s eyes.
What is one thing you wish everyone at FringeArts knew about you?
I use doodling to stay focused! So when we’re in a meeting and it looks like I’m taking notes, I probably am, but I also **might** be making little designs that help me remember what you’re saying better later. (Once in a while I might be drawing you, too. Hope that’s ok!)
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Like many recently-turned art majors, I have a lot of plans! One thing I’m thinking a lot about is making and showcasing art about disability, from my own experience and others’. I also want to work in academia. I’m also a Visual Studies minor, and right now I focus on street art and graffiti – I’m really interested in the ways that a city’s inhabitants shape its image to reflect their ideas.
